"Paddington & Haribo"

A 20"x 16" portrait of two gorgeous sisters, painted in acrylics

Paddington & Haribo are litter sisters whos owner commissioned me to paint in acrylics, I was spoilt for choice with a huge collection of ref photos of the girls in many and varied poses, I liased with their owner for some time before agreeing on  this composition, taken from two separate photographs.

"Mazie"

A 9" x 12" tabby cat painted in acrylics

This sweet, older lady is Mazie a very much loved family cat who I recently had the pleasure of painting, the portrait was to be a birthday gift for her favourite human, Mazie is doted on by her family and loves a lap to sit on.

Her portrait was painted from a single image showing her softer side and sweet expression....but don't be fooled, her owner tells me she "rules the roost"

"Dilly & Rolo"

An acrylic portrait of two Labradors

These adorable faces belong to Dilly (black lab) and Rolo (chocolate lab) their owners commissioned this portrait recently when Rolo was not in the best of health, he has since passed away and I hope that the portrait will bring his devastated owners some comfort in the months ahead....RIP Rolo

"Bella"

Coloured pencil

This recent commission is of Bella, a stunningly beautiful , monk brown Italian Spinone.

Bella lives in the USA with Quinn-Rose(Below) and Wren  and was completed in coloured pencils ....  I love the pose!

Quinn~Rose

10" x 8" graphite and coloured pencil

This is Quinn~Rose, a beautiful German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) who's American owners recently commissioned me to draw.

Although I mostly work in pure graphite pencil these days, they requested a little colour ,so I have added subtle tones to her coat and pure colour to her eyes with coloured pencils.

"Logan"

An A4 graphite portrait of a Hungarian Wirehaired Viszla

This portrait was commissioned by a group of friends to be gifted to Logan's owner, earlier in the year Logan was diagnosed with terminal cancer and sadly he passed away before the drawing was completed.

The portrait has since been delivered to his owners who are thrilled to have this lovely tribute to their much loved and missed boy....RIP Logan x

"Lu"

A complex Graphite portrait with two additional cameos

This complex portrait was drawn in memory of a very well loved and admired working Italian Spinone, "Lu"

His owners were recently devastated by his loss and wanted something extra special to commemorate his wonderful nature.

I composed this montage from some of their favourite images, each of which evoke memories of some very special moments in his life.

Contact me if you would like something special to immortalise your own beloved pet.

"Frankie"

A 16" x 16" graphite pencil drawing

Frankie is a very handsome, blue ,Staffordshire bull terrier, his owners had their previous SBT painted by me and came with a request for a graphite portrait of Frankie which I was more than happy to create for them, he is now framed in a lovely simple black frame with a silver line detail and hangs pride of place on their wall.

"Floyd....Like an arra"

A3 Graphite pencil drawing

This commission has been quite a while in the making, with lengthy negotiations regarding ref photos and composition.

Sadly during this process Floyd passed away and the portrait took on even more significance as a memorial piece to honour him.

Floyd was  a loyal companion, a dedicated working dog and also beloved family member.

"Alfie"

12"x 16" CP portrait

Alfie's portrait was a new challenge for me, as it was the first time I have used coloured pencil for the purpose, I am currently trying to limit my artwork to Graphite pencils, but with this in mind I decided to try using some colour.

I am happy with the  result and confident that I can offer this medium alongside my monochrome pencil work.

"Fudge"

16"x 20" acrylic on canvas

This portrait of Fudge was commissioned by her owners to celebrate their much adored Labradoodle, they gave me lots of insight to her wonderful character and requested a background to illustrate one of her favourite places.

Shortly after the painting was delivered I received this lovely message

"Kay, thank you so much, an absolutely stunning picture.                  Jackie noticed the three people in the background, what a nice touch. You certainly got Fudge off to a T.  You are an incredible artist!       Many thanks again....Bill & Jackie

"Rafa"

40 x 40 cm graphite pencil drawing

I was originally  asked to paint this gorgeous Cocker spaniel in acrylics but my client had a last minute change of heart and decided on a graphite drawing instead.

Being a black dog it is always a client concern that the drawing might end up looking flat, but I reassured them and had a thoroughly enjoyable time capturing the adorable nature of  fun loving Rafa and am happy to report that my clients love the result, it was gifted to my clients wife who sent me this lovely reaction.

"It is perfect! I cried when I opened it as it was such a lovely surprise! You really have captured him amazingly well and it has pride of place on the wall."........Thank you so much...Luisa

Vizsla trio

Watercolour

Painted for a returning client, these three working dogs were a treat to portray in a gorgeous setting looking across a lake in the owners land, i particularly enjoyed trying to capture the early evening light and the shadows cast by the fully focussed dogs.

"Alfie" Cocker Spaniel

A real treat for me to paint this lovely boy who I had the pleasure to meet many times in his younger years, Alfie sadly passed away in 2020 and is much missed by his owners who supplied a real assortment of images for reference, I chose to paint from a typically happy photo of him at the beach, as with so many dogs it was one of his favourite places.

This is a small portrait at just 12" x 12" but as a memorial to a much loved family member it certainly packs a punch! RIP Alfie x

I commissioned a portrait of our beloved dog who sadly passed away a few months before Christmas. Kay was fantastic to work with and kept me updated all the way. The finished portrait is beautiful and perfectly captures the personality and likeness of Alfie. It was a gift for my husband for Christmas - he was absolutely delighted and Alfie's portrait now hangs proudly in our home. I would highly recommend Kay.

Lily & Poppy

2020 ended on a high note for me with a rare commission for a cat portrait!

I knew I would enjoy this one as soon as the request came in, these two beauties are Lily (tortie & white)and Poppy (B/W) sisters by birth but completely different characters, I composed the painting from separate photographs, as (despite their close proximity in the portrait) my client had no photos of them together, stating that they rarely interact!

Italian Spinone portrait painted by Kay Prior

"Lucca" Italian Spinone

Another Birthday surprise was this 16"x20" acrylic portrait in memory of this much loved Spinone.

In true breed tradition Lucca had a real affinity with water and his owner requested this rather unusual composition, it was a challenge to paint such a soggy wet dog but one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
